Eastman Outdoors 90418 Jerky Slicer and Meat Cuber with Stainless Steel Knives Review

At fist glance, this slicer/cuber was what I was looking for. I make low-sodium, no pepper beef jerky, and slicing is a hassle, and, I have been keeping my eye out for a decent cuber. So, hey, 2 for 1, right? WRONG! The slicer sucks! No other way really to put it. It doesn't slice all the way through, IF you can even get it to go through the machine. The little pokey things that are supposed to grab the meat to pull it through as it slices, don't. They are plastic and are too short. If the meat is too thick, it won't go through, if the meat is too thin, it just wraps around the rollers! So, IF you can get it to CUT the meat, you have to RE-cut it with a knife,or, as I found works best, finish cutting the slices through with a pair of scissors! If I wanted to cut the meat with a knife, I would just do it to begin with, and be done in half the time!Also, I had to cut the meat into 1 inch slices, then put them in the freezer until the outside edges were firm, before I could get the meat to actually pass through.

Now, onto the cuber. It worked way better than the slicer! However, the little blades are a bit too big, and spaced too far apart. Making big holes in the meat. But, at least the meat went through.

I spent way too much time preparing the meat for "slicing". as well as just fighting the dang thing! There was no wrench included to tighten the screws holding the feeder-shoot on top, so, after about 10 minutes it is loose. Now, I have to go get an allen wrench or something, so I can tighten it.

So, in short, don't waste your money, unless you are really needing an "adequate" cuber. Get a nice knife and slice the meat easier and quicker. Only thing I did like about it, was, that it was non-electric and I didn't have to try and find a space to use it close to an outlet.
